World Commodity Food Prices

As we have been reporting for many months, the availability of a lot of food commodities has been tightening, especially in the last quarter of 2010 through to now. We do expect this situation to be with us throughout the most of 2011 see the Commodity Report for specifics as they affect the products we sell.

Here is a brand new report about the World situation from the UN's Food and Agricultural Organisation www.bbc.co.uk/news/business - this does not make pretty reading!. In future years, pressure will mount on Governments where food price inflation, water and consequent lack of availability become the main global issues.

Prices Changes

As we have been reporting in recent Newsletters and also as per this month's Commodity Report, price volatility is having significant impacts on raw material prices going into 2011.

Organic & Unrefined Sugars Billingtons announced an immediate increase of £59 per tonne and £40 per tonne for Organic and Unrefined Sugars, which we have had to pass on.

Mallows - We are, in the main, able to hold Mallow prices through to end June 2011 due to the fact that we are importing larger quantities and have offset the interim increases by a lower transport cost per pallet. One or two types have had to be increased and we do expect the second half prices to rise due to ingredient cost inflation.

January Newsletter Survey

HB Ingredients "Chocademy"

Following our move to a new warehouse and office facility in Lewes, East Sussex, we have now opened our in-house "Chocademy".

It has a fully equipped demonstration studio, including tempering machines, fridges and marble topped work unit and is ideal for small demonstrations for up to 8 people. With a folding wall at one end it can be enlarged to incorporate a meeting room, giving space for up to 20 people. It has full audio visual capability including recording to DVD.

Being the only purposed designed chocolate studio in the South East we are pleased to offer this facility to our customers, who may wish to arrange demonstrations or meetings. Click here for full details.

IFE March 2011

We will be exhibiting at this year's IFE (International Food Exhibition) to be held at Excel London from 13th-16th March.
