History of Callebaut

Callebaut - A great tradition since 1850
• 1850: The family-owned Callebaut company is founded and starts its brewery and milling activities.
• 1911: Callebaut starts a new activity – the production of chocolate tablets and bars.
• 1925: Callebaut starts producing couvertures for professionals and gradually stops its other activities.
• 1960: Callebaut has built its reputation in the Benelux and dreams of the markets abroad.
• 1965: Callebaut has expanded its activities beyond Europe.
• 1981: Interfood takes over the family-owned company Callebaut.
• 1983: Klaus J. Jacobs buys Interfood.
• 1990: Klaus J. Jacobs also buys the UK-based S&A Lesme, local market leader in the production of chocolate and coatings.
• 1992: Callebaut Asia Pacific is founded.
•1996: Callebaut and Cacao Barry merge into the international Barry Callebaut Group.
